Time in the Woods

This next layout project was a layout promoting the month of October. The article focuses on the colors of the fall and the excitement of staying outdoors during the fall. My classmates and I were challenged to shoot our own photography for this layout. After many photoshoots the picture of a tree i decided to go with had very green leaves. To give it a more fall feel i set an opacity on the tree picture and put a deep red color behind it to give an overall warm golden feel. I used a clipping path for the word "woods" and filled it with a backround of yellow leaves to connect with the right side of the layout.

Mid Term Blog

For this article I decided to use an aggressive drop cap. I was told a positive direction would to pull the text away from the large graphic. By doing this i create less tension which i feel is effective. I continued with my "separation" being cut off to emphasize the separation from a snowboard.
Because this layout was originally sparse i added graphic snowflakes with a similar blue shade as the texts. My goal was to create a graphic atmosphere for the graphic snowboarder, hopefully creating intrigue in the snowboarding lessons.
For my ad I decided to stay consistent with the number three. It originally held me back from promoting my project but after a few revisions I emphasized the product more and a website that viewers can order the product from.

For the final how safe project i decided to utilize the negative space due to lack of text. I used thin vertical blocks of text to fill areas that were lacking in previous layouts. I decided to leave the read outline to also take up space and really draw the viewer into the article.

I was told that this layout was particularly boring. To change it up, i flipped and rotated my main graphic horizontally. I added more color in the headline for movement and contrast. I also put the side bar in the bottom right corner rather than taking over a whole column.

For my final ceramics piece i choose to break the ceramic pot up by adding white text to highlight the key elements. To reiterate the fact that it is a ceramics class i choose to put an emphasis on ceramics. I also put an emphasis on the dates so viewers know when they can participate.

Portfolio Crit 1

For this poster I decided to keep certain minimalistic aspects while adding accents such as graphic snowflakes to give it character. I created this so the graphic was to the point and offers and intriguing activity.
For this ad I changed it so that it had more aspects promoting my product rather than just the activity the product enhances. I added the logo at the bottom and have a continuation of the T in tips to bring the viewer across the the spread.
For this layout I also chose to keep this layout to the point by using a strong graphic due to little text. I evened out the columns on the bottom of the article. i used lines to bring the texts into the graphic.
For this ceramics layout I changed the color of the dates so they pop out more. I have a red back round here to mimic the original paper I printed it on.

To go along with the last of the three layouts I decided to make a snow boarding lessons poster.  It is currently minimalistic to just get the point across.  I used a COB of a snowboarder doing a pretty intense flip for intrigue.

This layout consists of a large image and moderate text. I have the headline "separation anxiety" off to the side. I choose to have separation slightly separated from the picture. Towards the bottom left and leading to the right I have a guidance line to bring movement through the piece.

snowboarding ad

This next project we were to pick a picture we found intriguing and from that image make three different layouts: ad, magazine spread, poster. I choose an extreme sports picture of a snowboarder with a general blue and white color scheme. For this particular add I choose to use a repetition technique to mirror the fact that there are three techniques to clean your snowboard.

Final: Secret of Feeling Full Layout

Final Layout! I changed this layout drastically from the first draft

Final: How Safe? Layout

Final Layouts! I finally finished the how safe? layout. I didn't change too much from the last draft. There was some fine tweaking and I added a picture of peppers. I chose to use mainly orange and yellow peppers to offset the powerful red boxes and outlines.
